Abstract

According to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS-74), ships must be equipped with Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). This equipment is designed to improve the safety of maritime operations and certainly has some undeniable advantages over the use of paper charts. At the same time, the use of ECDIS requires navigators to have a sufficiently high level of expertise to operate professionally. Inadequate setting of safety parameters as well as incorrect interpretation of information from the display can lead to accidents. The study considers the determination of the diagonal (cross track) limit value (cross track) XTL as one of the route safety parameters in ECDIS.

The objective of this work is based on the requirements of the work for the minimum depth of the UKC standard combining information on the size of the ship, the size of the waterway, to build a calculation model that calculates the entire XTL value for input into ECDIS.
